My first fashion show….
After a year of sewing, networking, and making so many friends in the fashion industry, I said, “Hey, wouldn’t it be crazy if I hosted a fashion show for my 16th birthday?”. And I set a goal that I’d do it, even if it was just my mum in the audience.
I started by booking the venue because I knew there would be no turning back after. I wanted to have at least 20 garments for the show, so the sewing marathon began. There were so many late nights, later nights, and all nighters. I reached out to models, make-up artists, and photographers who I’d met once from fashion events or even never before, and dm’d them to see if they would be open to working with me to help achieve my dream. I’m so grateful for so many incredible people for trusting and helping the 15-year-old me or none of the show would’ve been possible.
When it came down to it, I had made 30+ garments, half a dozen life-size flower decorations, and 100 crochet flowers for the show. The entire show was self-funded and all pieces were hand-made.
This show was definitely the most difficult, scary and stressful thing I’ve done but would I do it all again? Absolutely.
